Biography

Timothy Tong received his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1976 and went on to complete MS and PhD degrees at UC-Berkeley. He taught at the University of Kentucky from 1980 to 1985 before joining the faculty at Arizona State University. In 1994, Tong became the Acting Director of the Center for Energy Systems Research.

He assumed the position of Department Head of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University in 1996. In September of 2000, he was appointed Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at The George Washington University. Tong is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
